Dale chicas. We all know that here in the United States the upcoming 2024 Presidential General Election is HUGE with so much at stake. Such as reproductive justice, immigration, health care, and so much more.
For those who don’t know, I have a career in electoral politics. Meaning I have led and managed several electoral campaigns for candidates running for political office such as senate, congress, city council, school board, and the list go on. This election and every other election, but especially this election, I have emphasized to my family and friends about going out and voting. I know we all have someone in our lives who is big on saying “well I’m just not a political person” or “why should I vote if nothing ever changes”. My response to those people is that this election is bigger than us. Not only are we voting for our own future but the future of our daughters and grand-daughters.
I remember meeting my boyfriend’s grandma for the very first time and we talked about politics. She told me how back in the 90s in New York City she was involved in fighting to raise the minimum change. However, that change didn’t actually happen until December 31st, 2016. Many of us want to see change happen overnight, but the reality is that change takes time. Every time that you vote in your local, state, and presidential election is a step towards a better future.
Let’s also not forget that voting in your local and state elections is just as important as the presidential election. Too many times I have talked to voters about local elections and they have said to me “honey I only vote in presidential election”. Well honey the President of the United States can’t fix your side walk. Your local council member is responsible for that.
I encourage you to talk to your friends and family about making a plan to vote. For those in Texas, early voting is taking place now until November 1st. Do you live in Dallas, San Antonio, or Houston and don’t know if you’re registered to vote? Check here:
